Man Charged for Burglarizing Southington Residence Twice in a Short Period
Police said the man was opportunistic ... until getting caught.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A man has been charged with burglarizing a Southingon residence twice in a short period of time, police said.
On Feb. 17, Patrick Thompson 21, of Philadelphia, was brought to Bristol Superior Court from the New Haven Correctional Institution on a Writ of Habeas Corpus, police said.
Thompson was processed and charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal trespass, sixth-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief, police said.

Thompson was then assigned a $100,000 bond, according to a warrant. He was already being held on theft-related charges, police said.
According to an arrest warrant, on Jan. 16 at approximately 5:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on Meriden Waterbury Turnpike for a residential burglary.

It appeared that the residence was entered by someone pushing through a piece of cardboard covering a window but nothing appeared to be missing, according to an arrest warrant.
About four-and-a-half hours later, the victim called police back and reported that his vehicle, a 2003 Jeep Liberty, was missing from the garage. The vehicle was at the house during the initial burglary, and it appeared theburglar returned to the residence after police had left and stole it.
The victim also reported that after officers left the residence the first time he that a brown leather wallet was missing from the living room table, according to an arrest warrant. The wallet contained cash, the victim’s Connecticut driver's license, a debit card and other miscellaneous items, police said.
At 4:14 a.m. on Jan. 17, state police encountered a disabled vehicle in the left lane on Interstate-84 westbound in the area of exits 16 and 17, according to an arrest warrant.
The disabled vehicle was identified as the stolen 2003 Jeep Liberty and the driver was identified as Thompson, police said.
Thompson was arrested by troopers for the stolen vehicle and drug charges and held on bond, police said.
A warrant was completed by Southington Detectives for the burglary investigation, police said.
