Man Charged for 'Forgetting' Gun on Southington Walking Trail

Southington police released the details of an arrest warrant regarding the forgotten firearm.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Police said they had to slap a criminal charge on a Bristol man after he left a loaded gun on a local walking trail.

The incident was on Sept. 21, and police released the details of an arrest warrant on Tuesday.

On Sept. 21 at 3:07 p.m., officers were dispatched to Crescent Lake, 495 Shuttle Meadow Road, on a report of a handgun that was found unattended, according to a news release.

The gun was a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol and it was found on the ground along a lakeside walking trail, according top a news release.

As officers were at the scene investigating the matter, Brian Trottier, 43 of Bristol, approached them, accordimg to a news release.

He claimed ownership of the gun, police said. Trottier told police he sat down along the lake with the gun in his waistband, according to a news release. He told police the gun became 'uncomfortable,' so he set it on the ground beside him, according to a news release.

When Trottier left, he forgot to take the gun with him, police said.

Trottier was issued a misdemeanor summons for second-degree reckless endangerment and was released on a $1,000 bond and given a court appearance date of Oct. 11, police said.
