Man Charged For Taking Car In Southington

A man with a protective order is facing criminal charges for taking a car from a place he was banned from visiting.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A man with a protective order is facing criminal charges for taking a car from a place he was banned from visiting, police said.

On April 28, David Badgley, 29, was charged with violating a protective order, third-degree burglary, third-degree larceny and operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, police said.

Police were contacted after a witness saw Badgley enter a building he was banned from visiting because of an active protective order, according to a report. He is accused of taking keys to a vehicle that was in a garage and driving it away, a report indicates.

The vehicle was not his and he did not have permission to operate it, according to a report.

Badgley admitted that he entered the building and took the vehicle, according to a report. He also told officers that he ran out of gas while operating the vehicle and where it could be found, according to a report.

The vehicle was recovered undamaged, police said.

Badgley had a suspended license at the time that he was operating this vehicle, police said.
