A man is accused of beating up a car during an altercation in a Southington parking lot, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A man is accused of beating up a car during an altercation in a Southington parking lot, police said.
On Monday 36-year-old Luis Manuel Torres of New Britain was charged second-degree criminal mischief, second-degree breach of peace and interfering with an officer.
Police were called to the area of 400 North Main St. on a report of an "intoxicated male" who was causing a disturbance, according to a report.

Police determined that Torres was involved in a verbal argument with another man and, in the process, punched a car in a parking lot belonging to someone not involved in the dispute.
The punch dented a fender, according to a report. The owner of the vehicle asked Torres to pay for the damage and he refused and walked away, according to a report.

When officers attempted to place Torres under arrest, he became uncooperative and physically resisted, according to a report. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle, police said.
No injuries were reported.
