Man Gets High Bond In Southington Harassment Case

A man has been charged in Southington harassment case.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A man is in custody in a harassment case in Southington, police said.

On Wednesday at about 2 p.m., Darius Thomas, 27, of Hartford, surrendered to the Hartford

Probation Office after learning of an active warrant for his arrest.

Thomas was transported to the Southington Police Department,where he was charged with second-degree harassment and second-degree threatening, police said. Thomas was initially held on a court-set $175,000 bond, but that was reduced to $50,000 after a court appearance the next day, records show. He failed to post it and remained in custody Friday with a return date of Jan. 25, records show.

The warrant alleges that on Nov. 22, in a span of about 30 minutes, a resident received
numerous threatening text messages from Thomas. During the course of the text messages, Thomas allegedly stated that he recently purchased a gun and that he was going to shoot the "victim" and "people around the victim," according to a warrant.

The victim reported being "fearful" of Thomas and "what he was capable of doing" if
they encountered each other, police said.
