
SOUTHINGTON, CT — Southington police are investigating a Wednesday evening crash in which a Waterbury man was struck by a pickup truck.
The crash was reported at about 5:30 p.m. and took place on Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, just east of Knotter Drive.
The road was closed until 10:15 p.m., police said.

Police said they are investigating the crash. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident can call 860-621-0101.
Police identified the pedestrian as Neim Redzepi, 56, of Waterbury. Police said he was attempting to cross Meriden Waterbury Turnpike in the area of Subway towards Dunkin' Donuts (north) when he was struck by a 2006 Chevrolet pick-up truck. The pick-up truck was operated by Joseph Scarmozzino 39, of Wolcott, and at the time of the impact, the pick-up truck was traveling eastbound on Meriden Waterbury Turnpike, police said.

Redzepi suffered serious injuries and he was transported by ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital, police said.
As a result of the subsequent investigation, Meriden Waterbury Turnpike between the TA Truck Stop and Canal Street was shut down and the road was reopened shortly after 10 p.m., police said.
The Southington Fire Department responded and assisted on scene.
There has been no enforcement action taken and the investigation is continuing, police said.
