SOUTHINGTON, CT — A South Windsor man was arrested after allegedly impersonating an FBI agent and attempting to bribe an employee at a Southington convenience store to obtain surveillance footage, police said Friday, Nov. 6.

Rocky R. Delmaro, 47, of South Windsor, was arrested Wednesday, Nov. 4, following an investigation into an incident at the 7-Eleven at 500 Queen St., according to the Southington Police Department.

Police said Delmaro entered the store Sunday, Nov. 1, wearing a jacket displaying the letters "FBI" and claimed to be a federal agent while attempting to gain access to the business's surveillance footage.

When asked to produce official law enforcement identification, the man was unable to provide credentials, police said.

After being denied access to the footage, the man allegedly returned to the store without the FBI jacket.

Police said he then acknowledged that he was not a federal agent and offered $100 in exchange for access to the surveillance footage.

The request was refused, and the incident was reported to police.

Southington officers and detectives launched an investigation that included reviewing surveillance footage and using the department's Automated License Plate Reader system to help identify a vehicle involved in the incident.

Police said information obtained through the license plate reader system, along with other investigative resources, helped investigators identify Delmaro as the suspect.

Investigators subsequently recovered the FBI jacket as evidence and obtained an arrest warrant, according to police.

Delmaro turned himself in at Southington Police Headquarters on Nov. 4.

He was charged with:

  • Impersonation of a police officer
  • Criminal attempt to commit commercial bribery

Delmaro was released after posting a court-set $100,000 bond.

He is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Wednesday, Nov. 18.

Police did not disclose why the man allegedly wanted access to the store's surveillance footage.
