Massive Easter Egg Hunt To Be Hosted By Southington Group

SOUTHINGTON/BRISTOL, CT — A Southington-based community family organization is hosting a massive, after-Easter event Saturday, April 6, at a Bristol park.

The goal is to raise money so the 'Misfit Mamas' organization can raise funds to purchase a vacant college campus in Southington to be its home base.

On Saturday, April 6, the organization is hosting its second annual "Spring Egg-Stravaganza" celebration at Rockwell Park, 238 Jacobs St., in Bristol.

This promises to be a massive Easter celebration that will feature "Breakfast with the Bunny" from 8 to 10 a.m. and, then, a massive egg hunt starting at 10 a.m.

Tickets for a child to participate in the egg hunt (100,000 eggs total) are $10, while an accompanying "duck race" in which rubber ducks race each other on a nearby waterway, are $5 (with prizes awarded to the winner.)

Other events include a car show from 8 to 11 a.m.; bounce houses; train rides; food trucks; live music; and dance demonstrations.

"The Misfit Mamas, Inc." is led by Southington resident Shennandoah "Shea" Wordell.

Wordell, a stay-at-home mother of a toddler, helped form the organization after the birth of her child in 2022 and her suffering from postpartum depression.

Now, Wordell and "Misfit Mamas" hope to purchase a large, empty 32.75-acre campus in Southington, once home to Briarwood College, then the Lincoln College of New England.

The organization is meant to be a home base for parents to support each other through support groups, play dates, meet-ups and education programs on available services.

The old campus would become the main headquarters for the organization and its program offerings, which are to parents statewide.
