Southington PZC To Mull New Medical/Retail Building In Town

The Southington PZC will have the town's first major public meeting of the new year Jan. 3.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A proposal to build a new commercial/medical building in town will be discussed by local land-use officials in the first major public meeting of 2023.

The Southington Planning and Zoning Commission will discuss and, possibly, vote on a proposal to build a 7,000-square-foot medical/retail building on 1175 Meriden Waterbury Turnpike (Route 322) on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. at Southington's John Weichsel Municipal Center Assembly Room, 196 N. Main St.

Richard E. Frazier Sr. of Plantsville filed an application with the town Dec. 12 to build the structure, which would go up within 500 feet of the Cheshire town line off Route 322.

Frazier is seeking site plan approval from the PZC.

As a result of its proximity to Cheshire, Southington officials have given notice to Cheshire officials of the application.

The footprint of the building plan is rectangular with modern and rural architectural designs.

According to the project's plans filed with the town, 3,500 square feet would be for a medical office while 3,500 square feet would be for a retail establishment, yet-to-be-named.

The building would have a total of 34 public parking spaces, including two handicap spaces, according to project plans.

It has been analyzed and, essentially, approved by the town's fire marshal, as well as the planning, engineering, health and fire departments, as well as the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
