More Details Released on Southington Industrial Accident

Police released the age of the worker involved.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Police on Thursday said the man who suffered a head injury in an industrial accident is 39.

The call came in at 4:23 p.m. on Thursday, police said. Southington police, Southington firefighters and AMR Amblance responded to Rex Forge Manufacturing at 345 Atwater St.

The man was working at the time of the accident, police said.

He was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury and later transferred to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford by Life Star helicopter, police said.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration , or OSHA, was contacted and will be investigating the incident, police said.

Rex Forge has been operating continuously since 1967, according to a company profile. The company is a manufacturer of impression (closed) die hot metal forgings and it has historically focused on serving customers in the heavy truck and off-highway vehicle, light truck and automotive, fluid control and ordnance industries, according to a company profile.

The local plant measures about 200,000 square feet on 15 acres and Rex Forge owns the building, according to a company profile. Rex Forge employs about 100 people, according to its website.

It has 11 mechanical forging presses ranging from 1,600 to 4,000 tons and it typically processes more than 70 million pounds of SBQ steel for customers annually, according to a company profile.
