Mother, 1-year-old Badly Hurt In Southington Crash

Southington police are investigating serious multi-vehicle wreck that occurred Friday afternoon.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local police this weekend are investigating a serious accident Friday that badly injured a mother and her 1-year-old baby on a busy section of town road.

According to a release from the Southington Police Department Sunday, the crash — which involved four vehicles — happened at 1:51 p.m. Friday on West Street in the area of Westwood Road.

Police said a 2022 Chevrolet Colorado was attempting to make a left turn out of Winterberry Gardens driveway onto West Street when it collided with a 2008 Infiniti EX35 traveling southbound on West Street.

The collision caused the Infiniti EX35 to veer into the northbound lane of West Street and collide head-on with a 2019 GMC Acadia, according to police.

The GMC Acadia was then struck by a 2017 Hyundai Elantra that was also traveling northbound on West Street behind the GMC, police said.

The SPD said the Infiniti EX35 was occupied with a female driver and a 1-year-old child.

Police said the female driver and her 1-year-old child sustained serious injuries and were both transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury.

The driver of the GMC sustained minor injuries and was transported to New Britain Hospital, according to authorities.

The driver of the Hyundai sustained minor injuries and was transported to New Britain Hospital, police said.

And, finally, police said the driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured.

This collision is being investigated by the Southington Police Accident Investigation Team.
