Mount Southington Could Surpass Last Season After Past 2 Storms

A snowy early March could be good business news for Mount Southington.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The past two storms seem to have guaranteed Mount Southington a longer season in 2017-18 than last year.

"It's helped out, I'll say that much," Mount Southington President and General Manager Jay Dougherty said on Tuesday as snow was dumping all over the hill. "We have definitely avoided the need to make more snow and the storms have put snow back in people's yards."

Dougherty was posed the question about things getting hairy with a warm and rainy February.

"We weren't looking at closing really early, but it would have been interesting if the weather pattern we had in February continued into March. We definitely avoided having to make snow in the month of March."

Dougherty said, as of Tuesday, Mount Southington has recorded 82 operational days. The business had 90 all of last season, he said.
