Mount Southington Gets Its Snowmaking Window, Set to Open

Terrain will be open for all levels, according to a Mount Southington official.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Mount Southington received its snowmaking window of cold weather and is set to open Saturday, General Manager Jay Dougherty said.

Pictures of the snowsports area's snow guns blasting away have been posted on Facebook. With Thursday night's single digits and before that nights in the teens, conditions have been ideal, he said.

He said a few weeks ago the goal was to open this week.

When asked how much snow crews were able to make, Dougherty laughed and said, "a boatload."

It must have been an ocean liner because Mount Southington will feature five trails and three lifts this weekend. An intermediate run has been created with Boomerang and Avalanche and a blue run was formed with Dom's Way and Stardust, Dougherty said.
