SOUTHINGTON, CT — Get ready for "The Shred Squad at Mount Southington.

For the 2026-27 season, Mount Southington is introducing a new snowboard program for middle school students this season, with registration now open.

The program, called Shred Squad, is geared toward fifth-, sixth- and seventh-grade snowboarders. It was created for riders who are ready to explore the terrain park in a fun, supportive environment.

"The Shred Squad is where confidence meets adventure," mountain officials said.

Officials said the squad is designed for riders who want to build confidence and develop freestyle skills. The program focuses on safely learning terrain park features, improving technique and progressing one step at a time while riding with others in the same age group.

The program is intended for a range of experience levels within that setting. Some might even be "hitting their first box" or building on skills they already have.

Mount Southington also said its certified instructors will lead the sessions. In the announcement, the ski area said, "our certified instructors make every session fun, encouraging, and confidence-building."

The new offering adds a youth-focused snowboard option for local families looking at winter programs in Southington.
