Mount Southington's Manager Earns Major National Ski Industry Award

He received a 'SAMMY Leadership Award' last week from Ski Area Management Magazine.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — For more than 50 years, Mount Southington and Connecticut's skiing scene have been intertwined.

And last week, the leader of the Plantsville ski resort was honored with a major industry award.

Mount Southington President and General Manager Jay Dougherty received a SAMMY Leadership Award from Ski Area Management Magazine, the ski area announced in a social media post on May 6.

The ski area praised Dougherty’s leadership and contributions to both staff and guests in announcing the recognition.

“Jay’s vision, dedication, and commitment to both our guests and our team continue to push Mount Southington forward while staying true to the family atmosphere that makes this place special,” the ski area wrote. “His leadership is felt every day from the big-picture improvements to the way he supports the people around him.”

The post added that employees were “proud to work alongside him” and grateful for his contributions to “our mountain, our staff, and our community.”

The SAMMY Awards, presented by Ski Area Management Magazine, recognize leadership and achievement within the ski industry.

Mount Southington, which has operated since 1964, is a family-oriented ski area offering downhill skiing, snowboarding, and night skiing.

The facility includes 50 acres of terrain, a terrain park, and a ski school and serves as a winter recreation destination in central Connecticut.
