Naugatuck Man Went 113 MPH On Southington Highway: Police
State police charged the 19-year-old with driving while impaired and reckless driving Thursday night.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — State police said a Nagutuck man was charged with drunk driving after he was clocked going 113 miles per hour on Interstate 84 in Southington Thursday night.
Police identified the suspect as Avila Carvalho De, 19, of Naugatuck, and he was charged with reckless driving and illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs.
He was released on a $5,000 bond and is expected in New Britain Superior Court on Oct. 29.

According to Connecticut State Police, at about 10 p.m., a trooper assigned to Troop H in Hartford was conducting speed enforcement when the officer observed a gray Toyota Corolla traveling at a high rate of speed.
The Toyota was on I-84 Westbound in the area of Exit 32 in Southington.

Utilizing a department-issued laser, the trooper clocked the Toyota's speed at 113 MPH in a 65 MPH zone, police said.
According to police, the trooper engaged emergency lights and the siren to begin a traffic stop, and the operator of the Toyota complied by pulling over to the right shoulder.
"When the trooper asked Carvalho if he knew how fast he had been driving, Carvalho did not respond," wrote state police in a statement released Friday afternoon.
Police said Carvalho told the trooper he was coming from Brazil.
"During their conversation, the trooper immediately determined that Carvalho was exhibiting signs of impairment," wrote police.
As a result, Carvalho was asked to perform field sobriety tests.
Police said Carvalho did not perform the tests to standard and he was taken into custody and transported to Troop H for processing.
