Southington Park To Get New Kiddie Playscape

The $125,000 project is on budget.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Recreation Park will soon have a new-and-improved playscape for the youngest of children.

The Southington Town Council unanimously voted Sept. 26 to approve recommendations by the town's public works department for the new play area, which would be for children aged 2-5.

Southington Director of Public Works Annette Turnquist discussed the plans with the council that night.

She said the town had already budgeted $125,000 for the project at the 25 Maxwell Noble Drive park.

When the numbers were crunched, she said, the project is on budget and, in fact, slightly under budget at $124,995.

Key to the project, she said, is replacement of the rubber surface below the play equipment in addition to new playground equipment.

Turnquist said no timetable has been established for construction, but the plan is to do the project while school is still in session.

The tentative plan is to move the current one to a temporary location while the new playscape is being built, she said, according to meeting minutes.

This project is one of many improvements slated at Recreation Park, including a major renovation of the public swimming pool there, though the council tabled action on that Sept. 26 to refine project plans.
