New Legislator For Southington/Farmington/Plainville Takes Oath

State Rep. Rebecca Martinez, D-Plainville, was officially sworn into office Wednesday to serve the 22nd House District.

HARTFORD, CT — One of the state legislature's newest leaders was sworn into her first term in the state legislature this week.

State Rep. Rebecca Martinez, D-Plainville, was sworn in Wednesday for her first term to represent the 22nd House District, which covers Plainville and parts of Southington and Farmington.

“I am honored to serve the people of the 22nd District, and I can’t wait to get to work for my constituents,” Martinez said.

Last November, Martinez defeated Incumbent incumbent Francis Rexford Cooley,6,551-6,108 .

The swearing-in ceremony occurred in the House Chamber on Opening Day of the 2025 Legislative Session.

Martinez will serve on the Appropriations, Children’s, and Public Health committees.

“I am ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work for the 22nd District. I look forward to taking my constituents’ voices to Hartford. I promise to be transparent about the work I do for them at the Capitol, and I look forward to keeping them updated every step of the way,” she said in a statement released Thursday.

Martinez has lived in Plainville since 2009 with her husband Javier, their two sons Mason and Logan, and their dog Josie.

She has worked in health care for more than 24 years and is currently a nurse for Elara Caring.

Martinez served on the Plainville Board of Education for five years, serving as curriculum chair for all five years and as vice chair for one year.

She was also appointed to the State Board of Examiners for Nursing in 2020 and served until last month.
