Now Is The Time To Prep For Southington's 'Sloper Plunge' Next Month

The Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA is hosting the annual coldwater dip in Camp Sloper's pond to raise money for camp scholarships.

Folks brave enough to jump in the icy waters of Southington's Camp Sloper on Feb. 22 will help local youths be able to afford to attend summer camp at the YMCA facility on East Street, Southington.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — It is easily the coolest (or coldest) fund-raiser event on the calendar and, while it will take place late next month, now is the time to prepare, both fiscally and mentally.

Every year, the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA hosts the annual "Sloper Plunge," a polar bear-like dip in the icy waters of Camp Sloper each winter. The 2025 "Sloper Plunge" is on Feb. 22.

The goal is to raise money for Camp Sloper, the YMCA's summer camp in Southington located on 1000 East St.

But summer is far away both on the calendar and in what participants will experience that day, which is Saturday, Feb. 22, at Camp Sloper.

Should the weather be too inclement for, even, a polar plunge swim, the event will take place a week later on Saturday, March 1.

From now until then, however, folks must sign up and pledge support for this icy endeavor.
