October In Southington: Fall Fun, Festivals & More

Fall is officially here in Southington, and there’s no shortage of ways to make the most of it. From festivals and farmers markets to pumpkin patches, live music and other seasonal fun, October brings plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy what’s happening close to home.

Here are some events and activities happening in and around Southington this October.

Southington Apple Harvest Festival

When: Friday, Oct. 2 and Friday, Oct. 9, 5–9 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 3 and Saturday, Oct. 10, 11 a.m.–9 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 4, noon–7 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 11, noon–5 p.m.
Where: Southington Town Green, 75 Main St., Southington, CT

Celebrate one of the town's biggest traditions at the Southington Apple Harvest Festival, returning for its 57th year over two October weekends. The festival features live entertainment, food, vendors, carnival fun and plenty of apple-themed treats, along with signature events including fireworks, road races and the annual Apple Harvest Parade. Admission to the festival is free, thanks to community sponsors.

Nightmare On Broad Street

When: Thursday, Oct. 29, 5:30–7:30 p.m.
Where: Windsor Town Green and Broad Street area, 275 Broad St., Windsor, CT

Down the road in Windsor, Nightmare on Broad Street will take over the Town Green and the surrounding area for an evening of free Halloween fun. Families can trick-or-treat along Broad Street and enjoy activities including a Halloween portrait station, outdoor movie, haunted house and haunted bus, and tractor-drawn hayrides. Broad Street will be closed to traffic for the event, and trick-or-treating begins at 5:30 p.m.

Fair Weather Growers Fall Festival

When: Fridays through Sundays through Nov. 1, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. (also open Monday, Oct. 12)
Where: Fair Weather Growers Fall Festival, 10 County Line Drive, Cromwell, CT

Take a short drive to Cromwell for the Fair Weather Growers Fall Festival, where 16 acres of farmland transform into a family-friendly fall destination. Attractions include a giant corn maze, hayrides, farm animals, a pumpkin patch, jump pillow, pedal go-karts, slides, train rides and activities for younger children. Tickets can be purchased online or at the gate.

Haunt On Eden

When: Select Fridays and weekends through Saturday, Nov. 7; evening time slots begin at 7 p.m.
Where: Mount Southington Ski Area, 396 Mt. Vernon Road, Southington, CT

Face an evening of scares at Haunt on Eden, a walk-through haunted attraction on the grounds of Mount Southington Ski Area. Guests make their way through the nighttime experience as they encounter the characters and scares lurking inside. Tickets are available online for specific dates, with one-hour entry windows beginning at 7 p.m.; advance registration is required, as popular dates and times can sell out.

Ghosts Of New Haven

When: Fridays and Saturdays for group tours (private tours available by booking daily), 7:30 p.m.
Where: 1070 Chapel St., New Haven, CT

Take a nighttime walk through New Haven's darker history during Ghosts of New Haven, a recurring tour series. The 90-minute walking tour explores local legends and tales involving historic cemeteries, secret societies, Yale's founders and other reportedly haunted corners of the city. Tours meet outside Starbucks at 1070 Chapel St., with adult tickets starting at $25 and discounted admission available for students, children, military members and seniors.
