Help Southington's Library Help The Community
The Southington Public Library's 'Food For Fines' program ends next week.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — There's only a week left in the Southington Public Library's "Food for Fines" program, with community members having until Feb. 1 to donate food and/or cold-weather clothing in return for a break on any library fines for overdue materials.
The program is a traditional holiday season program, but Southington's "Food for Fines" collection ends on Wednesday, Feb. 1.
Until then, all sorts of non-perishable food, especially pasta sauces and canned food, as well as cold-weather clothing like hats, scarves, mittens and gloves are being sought.

Originally, "Food for Fines" was supposed to end Dec. 27, but library officials opted to extend it into the new year, Feb. 1, to drum up more donations.
All items collected at the library will go to Southington Community Services, 91 Norton St., Plantsville, the local town agency dedicated toward helping those in need.
The amnesty for a donation program doesn't include billed, lost or damaged materials, according to the library.
