The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection recognized The Orchards at Southington for their commitment to protect the environment and natural resources.
The Orchards won the GreenCircle Award.
“GreenCircle Awards presented to those businesses, organizations, and individuals today recognize the importance of their voluntary efforts that improve the environment in their communities and statewide,” said Robert Klee, Commissioner of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. “Through this award program, these volunteers and the work they do serve as role models for others to follow.”

The Orchards participate in the Federal EPA’s Waste Wise Program and Food Recovery Program. It partners with American Forests, a non-profit conservation organization dedicated to restoring forest ecosystems.
A tree is planted for every new staff person and resident of the Orchards in an area of the country that is in need of restoration.

On top of all that the Orchards manages its grounds so it’s friendly for wildlife.
