Crash Shuts Down Highway For Hours In Southington: Update
The accident caused 'serious injuries' and created a massive traffic jam.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — An overturned vehicle on Interstate 84 in Southington late Wednesday afternoon caused a large traffic jam on Interstate 84 as both sides of the highway were closed for a crash that caused serious injuries.
According to the state Department of Transportation, the crash happened on I-84 west between exits 30 and 29.
This closed both the east and west sides of I-84, prompting massive traffic backups. The east side of I-84 was closed between exits 30 and 31, according to the DOT.

According to the DOT, traffic was backed up 7 miles westbound and 4.5 miles in the eastbound lane as of 5:27 p.m.
The crash was first reported at 4:26 p.m.

Connecticut State Police said the accident caused "serious injuries" and urged motorists to "seek alternate routes and plan for traffic delays."
By 9:27 p.m. Wednesday, state police reported that both sides of the highway had reopened to traffic.
