Owner of HomeTown Buffet Files for Bankruptcy, Plans to Close 81 Locations

The company that owns HomeTown Buffet, Buffets Inc., has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganized and has announced plans to close 81 of its restaurant locations nationwide, according to numerous media reports.

Buffets Inc. owns and operates the HomeTown Buffet, Old Country Buffet and several other national buffet restaurant chains, totaling 494 restaurants across the country, according to the Kansas City Business Journal. As part of its bankruptcy reorganization, Buffets Inc. plans to shutter 81 of its restaurants.

The Journal-Inquirer reports that a company spokesman said the locations slated for closure would be released Friday and that they would be closed "promptly."

There are four HomeTown Buffet locations in Connecticut, including Manchester, West Hartford, Wethersfield and Milford.
