PLAINVILLE – PARC, Inc., which has provided family centered services for people with developmental disabilities for more than 60 years, is hosting its annual Winter Warmer Chili Cook-off on Sunday, Jan. 26. This year the event is being held at a new location, Blue Plate Tavern, 180 Woodford Ave., from 2 to 5 p.m.
Graham Nicholson, owner of Blue Plate Tavern for the past five years, learned about PARC from PARC’s former president of the board, June May. In keeping with his commitment to support his community, he decided to host the PARC chili fundraiser, which needed a new venue. Nicholson, who is also the owner of Cadillac Ranch in Southington, said his businesses have supported numerous fundraisers and he is happy to do so. He said he is particularly excited for the event because it will give him the opportunity to showcase Blue Plate’s own special chili.
Proceeds are being raised through the entrance fee, which is $20, and the chili tasting fee of $5 per person. Trophies and bragging rights will be awarded to the first-place winners in two categories: Judge’s Choice and People’s Choice. People who wish to compete should bring a pot of chili and a serving spoon.
