Pet And Garden Retailer Sold In Southington

It was part of a $10.5 million deal recently negotiated by a Wethersfield real estate firm.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A former Agway pet and garden store in Southington, now operating under the name of Smithland Pet & Garden Center, is one of six properties recently sold by its owner.

According to Matt Halprin, president and chief operating officer of New England Retail Properties Inc., which represented the sellers in the sale of the locations, the other five stores are in Manchester, Bethel, North Haven, Middlefield and North Branford.

The Southington site is at 1198 Queen St.

The total sales price for all of the stores is $10.5 million, according to New England Retail Properties in a release issued Friday.

The free-standing locations were previously operated as Agway Stores and now operate as Smithland Supply.

The original owners are based in Guilford and they operated the Agway stores for more than 25 years and sold their interest in the company in 2016.

After retaining property ownership, the owners decided to sell over the past two years.

The outfit that purchased the stores is Trio Fund 1 CT Portfolio of Southport, an investment trust specializing in net lease retail investments.

New England Retail Properties, Inc. is based in Wethersfield and was founded in 1987.

It specializes in shopping center leasing, investment sales, retail and medical tenant representation and single tenant development.
