Pole, Transformer Crash to the Street in Southington

Crews were working at the scene Monday morning to fully restore power.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Just how a pole with a transformer came crashing to the street on Monday was a mystery, but it left nearly 1,000 people without power and motorists on a detour for the morning commute, police and Eversource Energy officials said.

The transformer was located near 221 Burritt St. and came down at 6:10 a.m., leaving nearly 1,000 households without power, Eversource officials said.

Eversource officials at 7:20 a.m. said power was restored almost immediately to all but about 70 households right near the incident. Crews were working there through the morning hours and the road was closed between Ruggles Row and Canal Street, officials said.
