Police: Beware of 'Oversize Caravan' Traveling Through Southington on Wednesday

A detour system is being set up, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT – Southington police have issued a traffic advisory for Wednesday on Route 10.

On Wednesday what police are describing as "an oversize and overweight vehicle caravan" will be traveling on Route 10 in Southington starting at the Southington-Plainville line at 8 p.m., police said.

A Police escort will be with with the caravan.

In preparation for the caravan to travel safely, a temporary traffic detour will be
established on Route 10, police said.

On Wednesday at 7 p.m. until about 11 p.m., a portion of Route 10 (South Main Street) in Southington will be closed from Clark Street to the I-84 interchange and Mulberry Street, police said.

The area willbe closed while the caravan travels through the area and a bridge in the area is reinforced with “jumper structures” to accommodate the load, police said.

A detour route will be set up on Route 10 to assist motorists through the area, police said.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area if at all possible at those times, police said. Police said the cargo is "heavy equipment" heading to Cheshire.
