Police: Drunken Southington Teen Waves Gun During Disturbance

SOUTHINGTON, CT - A drunken teen was waving around an air gun that resembled the real thing during a fracas on Pinecrest Drive late Tuesday night, police said.

The incident took place at 11:23 p.m., police said. Tyler Smith, 19, of 35 Pinecrest Drive, Southington, was arrested and charged with second-degree breach of peace, interfering with police and brandishing a facsimile firearm, police said.

Smith was held overnight on a $50,000 cash or surety bond and was to appear in Bristol Court Wednesday morning, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Pinecrest Drive on Tuesday night after receiving a report about a disturbance involving a gun, according to a news release.

Police said Smith was at his residence with some friends and the homeowner asked the friends to leave.

Smith then apparently became agitated, retrieved a handgun and began threatening people within the residence, police said.

Smith seemed to be intoxicated and was uncooperative with investigating officers, according to a news release.

He then residted arrest, police said.

The handgun in question is an "air soft" type gun and it is a facsimile of a Colt model 1911. The gun appears to operate with compressed air and BB-type projectiles, police said.
