Police Nab Two Teens Breaking Into Cars In Southington Friday: SPD
The juvenile suspects will appear in juvenile court this week and face multiple larceny and intefering with police charges.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local police said two teen suspects have been charged with breaking and attempting to steal from motor vehicles in town Friday morning.
According to the Southington Police Department, one juvenile was aged 16 while the other was 17. Because they are juveniles, police cannot identify them.
One juvenile was charged with two counts of criminal attempt at third-degree burglary; interfering with a police officer; and two counts of third-degree burglary, according to the SPD.

The other juvenile, police said, was charged with interfering with a police officer; two counts of criminal attempt at third-degree burglary; and possession of burglar tools.
Both were taken into custody and are now in the state's juvenile court system, police said.

According to the SPD, at about 5:21 a.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to Laning Street in town for a report of "active motor vehicle burglaries."
Police said they canvassed the area of the Days Inn Hotel, 30 Laning St., and Kenmore Apartments, 78 Laning St., when an officer heard voices coming from the rear of 48 Laning St.
The officer, police said, observed two male suspects committing motor vehicle burglaries.
After police tried to apprehend the suspects, both attempted to flee on foot and began running westbound towards Interstate 84, police said.
Southington officers gave chase and one suspect was quickly apprehended.
Police said a perimeter was then set up and officers were able to locate the second suspect, who was hiding in a wooded area.
One of the teens was found to have a screwdriver that is believed to have been used to attempt to gain entry into vehicles in the area.
Further investigation, police said, found a total of four motor vehicles in the area had either been entered or attempted to have been entered by the suspects.
One of these vehicles had a side window smashed out.
Upon being taken into police custody, one juvenile was issued a Juvenile Summons and set to appear in Waterbury Juvenile Court on July 11.
The other teen suspect was issued a Juvenile Summons and set to appear in New Haven Juvenile court on July 11.
Police said both juveniles were released to their respective guardians.
