Police: Southington Man Abused Family, Left Them in Cold House

Mazen Matit is alleged to have physically and mentally abused residents in his house. He also allegedly refused to buy heating oil.

Southington Police arrested a man who allegedly physically and mentally abused family members and refused to his house where children were living.

Mazen Matit, 45, of Southington was arrested on Jan. 29, said Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz, police spokesman.

A warrant alleges that that assaulted and mentally abused family members on various occasions throughout January. At one point he allegedly refused to purchase heating oil for his residence, leaving family members in the cold. Four of the reported victims are minor children.

Matit was charged with reckless endangerment, five counts of risk of injury, five counts of cruelty to persons and two counts of third-degree assault. He was held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
