No Gunman Found In Southington, Road Rage Probed: Reports: UPDATE

State police said a man wielded a gun on I-84 in Waterbury, with a highway rest area in Southington blocked off as police searched for him.

SOUTHINGTON/WATERBURY, CT —An Interstate 84 rest area in Southington was blocked off late Tuesday morning as state police investigated a firearms incident believed to have occurred on the highway in Waterbury.

But police said later in the afternoon that there is no threat to the public, though their probe continues.

WFSB Channel 3 reported Tuesday afternoon that state police are probing a possible "road rage" incident in Waterbury, with the vehicle being abandoned in Southington and prompting schools in town to be alerted.

According to Connecticut State Police late Tuesday morning, troopers were investigating an incident "in which an individual appeared to have displayed a firearm on I-84 West in Waterbury."

Tuesday morning, troopers and police K-9 dogs were searching for the suspect, who was believed to be in the Southington area.

As a result, the I-84 East rest area in Southington was blocked off as police investigated, state police said.

Later in the day Tuesday, police said it was "confirmed that there is no active threat to the Southington community at this time."

State police said the investigation remains active and ongoing and no press conference was slated to be held.
