Program examines positive impact of exercise on arthritis

WALLINGFORD – Individuals with arthritis can realize multiple benefits through exercise: increase in strength and flexibility, reduction in joint pain and lessening of fatigue. A free program on this topic will be held Wednesday, Feb. 8, 10 a.m., at Wallingford Senior Center, 238 Washington St. Exercise physiologists Robert Schmelzer and Mark Colello, of Hartford HealthCare Senior Services GoodLife Fitness program, will lead the discussion about easing pain and managing symptoms.

GoodLife Fitness is an individualized exercise program geared toward the older adult to build energy, strength and endurance for an active lifestyle. An exercise physiologist works one-to-one with each person to improve muscular strength, balance, cardiovascular health and self-esteem, while reducing the risk of falls and injuries.
