Southington Orchard Opens Cider Bottling Facility

A Southington institution that has been around for generations has opened a new ciderhouse site, with even bigger plans coming in July.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A local orchard known for being a prominent agritourism destination in Southington, has announced the recent opening of a new addition to its offerings this year.

Last week, Rogers Orchards, 336 Bottom Road, Southington, announced the opening of the "Long View Ciderhouse," a new hard cider bottle shop that combines the art of cider making via apples with the sophistication of fine wine.

Orchard officials said the bottle shop "offers four unique hard ciders made from apples grown on the farm, a variety of styles and flavors and more releases planned for this summer."

Currently, the shop offers four ciders: blueberry, peach, cherry and a special single variety apple wine made with the Roxbury Russet apple.

Orchard officials said, In July, Long View will unveil its custom cider tap truck, to be known as the "Orchard Bar," located on an orchard hilltop near the farm’s "Pick Your Own" location near Shuttle Meadow Reservoir.

"Customers will be able to relax and enjoy a cider while taking in the scenic views of the orchards where the apples are grown," wrote the orchard.

In addition, officials said food trucks will provide food options and folks will be able to enjoy "views as far flung as Sleeping Giant in Hamden to the southwest, to the Hartford skyline looking towards the northeast."

The opening comes less than a year after the Southington Planning and Zoning Commission approved Rogers' plans to build the cider facility.

Earlier this year, Rogers received state funding as part of an economic development package, for the purchase of its cider-making equipment.
