Public Open Space In Southington Gets Nice Makeover
Last week, the town unveiled new wayfinding signage at the historic Curtiss Open Space Property located on Meriden-Waterbury Road.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The town last week unveiled some new features at a public open space property giving folks more of an insight into local history.
Barnes Museum curator and Southington Town Councilperson Jenn Clock unveiled new historical wayfinding signage at the Curtiss Open Space Property located on Meriden-Waterbury Road.

"This project, six years in the making, is the result of extensive research by Christina and Town Historian Phil Wooding," wrote the Barnes Museum
"The signage celebrates the legacy of Carlos Curtiss, a well-known Southington abolitionist."

The museum thanked benefactor Mark Lovely for his "generous support of this open space and for funding the creation of the signage."
Museum officials also thanked the living Curtis family descendants, who "graciously shared their beautiful historical family collection with us, allowing us to uncover this vital part of Southington’s history."
"Visit the Curtis Open Space and immerse yourself in a legacy that continues to shape our understanding of Southington’s rich history and the power of preservation," wrote the museum.
According to Southington Town Manager Alex Ricciardone, the property is accessible to the public to enjoy the scenery and passive recreation opportunities.
