SOUTHINGTON, CT — If one of your uncles busts out "the good stuff" at a future family celebration, there's a good chance it may have been purchased in Southington at a unique auction slated for this Friday.
Then again, the "good stuff" for sale Friday might just be too good to, even, drink.

That's because Good Bottles Auction — a Plantsville-based auctioneer specializing in rare, collectible vintage spirits — is having a unique auction Friday, Feb. 23, at its 8 Metals Drive location in town.
Calling it "Connecticut’s first-ever dedicated auction of rare whiskey, wine, and spirits," Good Bottles Auctions said it will take place at 5 p.m.

Up for public bidding are 420 lots of "rare and collectible bourbon, scotch, and Irish whiskey from distillers Buffalo Trace, Michter’s and Stitzel-Weller, as well as a carefully cellared fine wine collection," wrote Good Bottles in an announcement.
“The hunt for rare bottles is time consuming and full of pitfalls,” Good Bottles auctioneer Ryan Brechlin said. “Good Bottle Auctions is a way for enthusiasts to find exactly what they are looking for.”
Brechlin and auctioneer Thomas Selmont have a combined 35 years auction experience in the antiques, art, military and firearms business.
Bidders must be 21 years of age or older. The live auction event is free to attend, however seating is limited and reservations are required.
According to Good Bottle officials, recent changes to Connecticut state law have allowed for the type of event the company is hosting this week.
“Our auction brings authenticity and legality to the secondary alcohol market,” Selmont said. “We’re proud to finally offer a solution for whiskey and wine investors to realize profits from their collections."
