He was still in custody Wednesday.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Meriden man arrested for attempting to rob a Southington Liberty Bank Branch in April was already behind bars and has a long history of public indecency in three towns, including Southington, police said.

Dennis Dean, 45, of 350 Broad St., Meriden, was arrested on Friday in Bristol Superior Court and charged with attempt to commit second-degree robbery, according to police.

His bond for the bank case alone is $150,000 and he remained in custody Tuesday morning, Southington police said. He is due back in court on July 19, according to judicial system records.

He is in custody on bonds that total well into six figures, court records show.

The Liberty Bank robbery attempt took place on April 18.

Southington police said in a detailed news release that a man walked into the Liberty Bank branch at 60 North Main St., demanded money, but then left without getting any cash.

Police said they were alerted to the robbery attempt at 1:29 p.m.

The suspect was described as a white male between 30 and 40 years old with a goatee wearing jeans, a black sweatshirt and a camouflage hat.

The suspect entered the bank and passed a note to the teller requesting cash, but left before getting anything, police said.

The suspect was operating a red, older model Ford F-150 or F-250 pickup truck. The truck and the man were captured in detail on security cameras. Police released the pictures shortly after the robbery attempt.

A $500 reward was being offered by the Connecticut Bankers Reward Association for information leading to the apprehension of the "responsible party," police said.
