Road to Prison Break Attempt Began in Southington, Police Said

A woman was first arrested in Southington before trying to escape from a prison, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The road to the fence and an attempted escape at a state correctional facility began in Southington for an area woman, police said.

It was 2:24 a.m. on Monday when police encountered 24-year-old Caitlin Roncalli, who has listed addresses in both Suffield and Springfield on various police reports, on a "well-being check," a report indicates.

She wound up being arrested and charged with criminal impersonation, interfering with an officer, possession of marijuana and carrying a dangerous weapon, police said.

Roncalli was held on a $10,000 cash bond and appeared in court later that day, police said.

Roncalli gave the name and birth date of a relative to Southington officers, according to a report.

Officers were able to confirm Roncalli’s true identity, at which time it was discovered she had an active
failure to appear warrant out of East Windsor Police Dept.

During the booking process, Roncalli was seen removing a baggie from her purse containing marijuana and putting it into her pants pocket, police said. During a further search of the purse, officers also located a pair of brass knuckles, police said.

She went to Enfield court after that on the East Windsor warrant and wound up being transferred to York Correctional Institution, police said.

She attempted to escape Tuesday morning, but was captured without making it outside the perimeter fence, a state police spokesperson said.
