SOUTHINGTON, CT — One of Southington High School's more sacred spots in the building has received a facelift and remodeling, amid a renewed aim to ensure prominent SHS alumni are always remembered.

Recently, school staffers built a newly remodeled "Southington High School Alumni Wall of Honor" at the 720 Pleasant St. school.

The feature was created in 2007 and the hope is the new Wall of Honor will more prominently display the exploits of prominent SHS alums who have excelled after leaving the school.

Southington Superintendent of Schools Steven Madancy updated the Southington Board of Education late last month on the wall.

He credited Southington School System Director of Operations Peter Romano and a team of school system carpenters for getting the job done.

"So its got a much-needed facelift from its original location and it will be a source of pride for folks that received that honor," Madancy told school board members.

The new wall is also hoped to provide inspiration to current students, who, someday, may be on the wall themselves in a few years.

"It's a space in the high school that, hopefully, the students will recognize more easily in terms of the contributions of past Southington High School students," Madancy said.

The wall currently features several plaques with photos, along with descriptions of prominent SHS alumni.

It honors representatives of all fields from business to athletics to philanthropy and education.

As an example, one member of the Wall of Honor is 1982 SHS graduate and former major league pitcher Rob Dibble, who baseball fans will remember as being one of the 1990 "Nasty Boys" on the world champion Cincinnati Reds that year.

Dibble, who was inducted into the Wall of Honor in 2020, is a sports talk radio host and has been prominent Major League Baseball analyst.

Every year, nominees for the Wall of Honor are accepted, with a March 1 deadline.

"Those honored must be Southington High graduates, and have done outstanding community service, received significant awards, had extraordinary lifetime achievements or done great humanitarian work," reads the Wall of Honor page online.
