'Severely Neglected' Puppy Found In Bag In Southington

Authorities are investigating a case of an abandoned puppy found on the roadside in Southington.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Authorities in Southington are caring for a puppy found abandoned on a bag on the side of a busy road. They are also looking for who did it.

The dog, described as a young male beagle mix, was located by a passerby at 12:26 p.m. Thursday in the area of Empress Drive and West Center Street, animal control officials said.

The puppy was abandoned and left inside a paper shopping bag on the side of the road, authorities said. He appeared lethargic and showed signs of "severe neglect," animal control officials said.

The puppy was transported to a local veterinarian for care, authorities said.

A criminal investigation for animal cruelty has begun, according to police.
