Shoplifting Scuffle at Southington Target Leads to Charges

A shoplifting-related scuffle in Southington led to charges against a Bristol man.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A man has been charged with a shoplifting-related scuffle at the Southington target store, police said.

On July 4, Jose Rodriguez, 30, of Bristol was charged with sixth-degree larceny, third-degree robbery and third-degree assault, police said.

The Southington Target store is located at 600 Executive Boulevard.

Rodriguez allegedly stole sockets, medical supplies, a "multi tool" and two caribiner clamps and placed them in a backpack, police said.

He then attempted to leave the store, but was confronted by the store’s loss-prevention associate, police said. Rodriguez then allegedly pushed the loss-prevention associate and began to "physically assault the associate," according to a report.

Rodriguez then fled the store and was attempting to leave the scene on a motorcycle when police arrived and took him into custody, a report indicates.

The loss-prevention associate suffered minor a minor injury to his arm. Rodruguez suffered a minor hand injury during his attempt to get away from the associate, police said.

He posted a $10,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on July 16, police said.
