Southington Authorities Touting Medication Drop Box

Southington police on Friday announced a new campaign to promote disposal of unwanted medication.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Southington police on Friday announced a new campaign to promote disposal of unwanted medication:

"The Southington STEPS Coalition, the Southington Police Department and HQ Dumpster & Recycling, LLC, have partnered to encourage Southington residents to dispose of medications properly at the Permanent Medication Drop Box, located in the lobby of the Police Department at 69 Lazy Lane, Southington, CT.

display, “Don’t Trash Your Stash – Bring unwanted medication to the Permanent Medication Drop Box” on TWO of their brand new Southington garbage trucks!

"The ‘Don’t Trash Your Stash’ slogan and campaign was created by STEPS Youth Council members to continue to raise awareness for the Permanent Medication Drop Box that was installed in 2012.

"Once the new campaign was finalized, Youth Council members presented their campaign to HQ Dumpster & Recycling owner, Jack Perry, who was impressed with the youth. Jack fully supported the initiative by committing his HQ trucks to become traveling billboards for the Southington community!

"The Permanent Medication Drop Box can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is for the
disposal of unused, unwanted or expired medications from residential homes in Southington (not for commercial disposal or disposal from medical facilities or doctors’ offices). The Permanent Medication Drop Box is not able to accept hypodermic needles/syringes, vitamins, IV bags, bloody or infectious waste, hydrogen peroxide, thermometers or aerosol cans.
