Southington, Cheshire Folks Urged To Take The 'Sloper Plunge'
The Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA is urging folks to begin planning to jump into an icy lake to benefit a beloved summer camp.

SOUTHINGTON/CHESHIRE, CT — If you're already ensnared in a post-holiday hangover and feel like jumping into a frozen lake is just the thing to rectify that, the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA has just the event for you.
The non-profit organization's annual "Sloper Plunge" will take place on Saturday, Feb. 28, and the "Y" is looking for brave folks and organizations to take a dip and raise money for a cause near-and-dear to the community. If the weather is really bad, it will take place on March 7.
Proceeds from the event, which takes place at 1 p.m. that dayat Camp Sloper, 1000 East St., Southington, benefit "Camp Sloper," the beloved summer camp serving Southington children for decades.

"Keep your eyes open for more event information and our event webpage coming soon, and start getting your teams ready to plunge in 2026," wrote the Southington Community YMCA in an announcement.
To participate in the plunge this year, folks will need to meet the following criteria:

- Minimum age: 16 years old with parent consent or 18 years or older to participate as of Feb. 27.
- Obtain sponsorships for yourself totaling a minimum of $100 per plunger; all pledges must be collected and turned in by Feb, 28.
- A signed waiver form must be completed before Feb. 28.
- All plungers must pre-register online or at the YMCA when the website is set up.
"We hope to see you all there," wrote the "Y."
"Start recruiting your friends, family, and anyone else who wants to help the youth of Southington and Cheshire have a magical summer camp experience."
Proceeds benefit scholarships for Southington and Cheshire children who attend summer camp there.
