Southington Child Car Seat Safety Check Canceled Due To Weekend Storm

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A free child car seat safety check scheduled for Saturday in Southington has been canceled because of the approaching storm, police announced Friday.

The Southington Police Department said the event, which had been scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Southington Calendar House, 388 Pleasant St., will not take place because of the pending storm.

The event was being presented by the police department and the Early Childhood Collaborative of Southington.

Certified child passenger safety seat officers had planned to inspect vehicles on a first-come, first-served basis. Officers were expected to check car seats for expiration dates or recalls, make sure seats were appropriate for a child's height and weight, adjust harness straps, and assist families with proper installation.

Police had also planned to correct installation or usage problems without issuing tickets for car seat violations.

The department's cancellation notice did not announce a makeup date.
