Southington Collecting Warm Clothing All September Long
As part of 'Operation Stay Warm,' the Town of Southington is seeking donations of hats, scarves, and mittens/gloves.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — September is celebrated as back-to-school month, the end of summer and the start of autumn.
But in Southington, it's recognized by the town's social services department as the month for residents to clean out their closets and donate any warm clothing items that help people when it is cold.
Southington Community Services, along with the Southington School System, churches, banks, and other organizations are behind "Operation Stay Warm."

There are several drop-off locations throughout town. The Southington Community Services Department, meanwhile, is located at 91 Norton St., Southington.
Items sought specifically are new or gently used warm hats, scarves, and waterproof gloves for both adults and children.
Those items then will be distributed to residents in need before winter.
Last April, the town conducted a warm coat drive and whatever is collected in September will be distributed with the coats.
"Your donations will help to ensure that Southington residents of all ages will be properly outfitted in the upcoming winter season," wrote the town's social services department.
