Southington Council To Gather Input On Colmbus Bust

The Southington Town Council has scheduled a public hearing for next month to gather opinions on the local statue of Columbus.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington Town Council has scheduled a public hearing for next month to gather opinions on the local statue of Christopher Columbus.

The statue, a bust of Columbus on a pedestal, stands in front of the John Weichsel Municipal Center at 200 North Main St.

The hearing is slated for July 13 at 7 p.m. Action is not likely to be taken, officials said.

In 2015, the placement of the statue was endorsed by the council. It was put in place in October 2017.

The bust of Columbus was sponsored by the the Calvanese Foundation and the Knights of Columbus among others residents and local groups with Italian roots.
