The Southington CyberKnights, FIRST Robotics Team 195, Win the New England Robotics Championship for the Second Year In A Row

SHS CyberKnights Win The New England Robotics Championship for the second year in a row. They move on to compete at World Championship!

64 high school robotics teams from across New England met at the XL Center in Hartford CT this past weekend to compete in the New England District Championship. The CyberKnights, qualified for the New England Championship Event after winning two district events already this season. With two blue banners under their belt already, they knew they needed to step up their game and achieve a spectacular and innovative game strategy and new robot functionality as they faced the best teams in New England in a battle for their Division Banner.

Southington again demonstrated their earned reputation for outstanding offensive scoring. They scored quickly and decisively with their vision system guided catapult achieving 96% accuracy in tele-operation. They added a tower climber to their arsenal of offense as well as a “two boulder Autonomous” where the robot is pre-programmed to move across the field and score without the aid of any human operators. This “Two Ball Autonomous” function has only been achieved by two other teams in the world and will certainly be a differentiator as they move on to play in the World Championship level.

Southington was selected by the #2 seed, Team 125 the Nutrons from Northeastern University in Boston, to compete with them in the playoffs. A Team 195 Alumni Bailey Kahl is now a mentor for Team 125 and it was great to compete again together. Joined also by their third alliance partner, Team 2168, The Aluminum Falcons from Groton CT, the alliance proved successful after a very hard fought playoff.
