A Southington doctor was fined $5,000 and placed on probation after he improperly prescribed powerful painkillers to his wife and an employee.

Dr. Alkesh Patel prescribed his wife injectable Dilaudid, a narcotic painkiller, seven times to treat her migraine headaches, but didn’t maintain proper records, according to the Connecticut Health I-Team.

The state Medical Examining Board also found he prescribed the same painkiller to an employee 14 times without maintaining proper records.
