SOUTHINGTON, CT — On Thursday, Nov. 10, state and federal officials announced in a news release that a Southington doctor and his practice have agreed to pay the government more than $2.6 million to settle allegations that he "violated the federal and state False Claims Acts by improperly billing federal and state healthcare programs, and that they received illegal kickbacks."

"Three years ago, the government made me aware during an investigation that some of my billing and coding decisions could not be supported from a billing compliance perspective. I immediately changed our billing and coding procedures and was fully cooperative and transparent with the government. These were procedural misunderstandings and I acknowledge that billing mistakes were made by me and my practice. However, I strongly disagree with the government’s characterization of the facts. Simply put, I would never intentionally defraud the government in any way.

"I recently voluntarily entered into a civil settlement agreement to put this matter behind me. I did not admit to liability or guilt but do take responsibility for my actions. Along with my family, my patients are my top priority and I look forward to helping them achieve True Health for many years to come."

Kevin P. Greene, M.D.
