Southington Drive-In Releases 2023 Schedule And Movie List

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The beloved Southington Drive-In movie theater announced over the weekend its 2023 schedule of classic movies under the summer night sky.

It all starts on Saturday, June 3, with a classic blockbuster that promises to ensure folks will only swim in fresh water lakes or swimming pools — 1975's "Jaws."

Located at 995 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, the Southington Drive-In specializes in family friendly nostalgia (though little kids might want to stay away from the shark on opening night).

As a result, it's movies are of the classic and family-friendly variety as opposed to first-run shows of varying ratings.

And the means to enjoy these films is, shall we say, a bit different for today's younger sect, whose parents and grandparents grew up with movies from their cars under the stars.

Simply put, this isn't a multi-plex.

From June 3 on, the drive-in will host Saturday night showings through Saturday, Sept. 9, when folks will see if "Baby" finally gets put in a corner in 1987's "Dirty Dancing."

Other movies slated for the season include: "Top Gun: Maverick," "Grease" (where a drive-in movie theater plays a central role) and Disney's "Zootopia."

As for enjoying the drive-in, the means to do so is, decidedly, is old school — cash only for both tickets and concessions.

The cost is $20 a carload (walk-ins are $5 each).

In addition, folks needn't worry about those pesky posts with clunky speakers you hook up to your window for sound. Just tune your radio to 89.9 FM.

The gates open at 6 p.m., giving folks plenty of time to socialize, picnic and enjoy other fun, family activities in the nearby multi-purpose field. Movies start when its dark enough.
